iRest - Integrative Restorative Yoga Nidra Program

We would like to offer Veterans the opportunity to enhance their current PTSD treatment protocol with an integrative Restorative (iRest) Yoga Nidra program.

iRest is an evidence-based transformative practice of [guided] meditation that leads to psychological, physical and spiritual well-being.

Overview
iRest is a guided meditation method that is currently being offered at many VA facilities throughout the country. The study by L. Stankovic, called, "Transforming Trauma: A Qualitative Feasibility Study of Integrative Restorative (iRest) Yoga Nidra on Combat-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" in the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, No. 21 (2011) shows that iRest can provide meaningful benefits to those suffering from combat-related PTSD. iRest appeared to support veterans by providing them with a practice that allowed them to regain a measure of subjective control over their experience, achieve symptomatic relief, regain feelings of self-efficacy, and experience positive states that had been occluded by PTSD symptoms.

Research has shown that iRest Yoga Nidra effectively reduces:
PTSD
Depression
Anxiety
Insomnia
Chronic Pain
Chemical Dependency

About the Instructor

Born and raised on the Big Island, Chelsea has always been intrigued by the complexities of the human body.  She has a background in human physiology from the University of Oregon as well as a Masters degree in elementary education from the University of New Mexico.  She received her 200 hr Yoga Alliance certification as well as her Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist training on Oahu where she lived for 2 years.  She has also received her training as a level 1 iRest Yoga Nidra teacher in 2015, and her certification as a Holistic Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Chelsea's passion is to foster deep-seated healing through yoga, guided meditations, and health coaching principles with the goal of acknowledging one's inner strength and beauty.  She is a firm believer that if given the right conditions and attention the body has the power to heal itself.  Her knowledge of meditation and yogic principles has allowed her to successfully work with clients from a range of backgrounds including children in the school setting, veterans with PTSD, and adults.  One of her greatest joys is to see the benefits of yoga unfold as people heal their bodies and their minds.  She is thrilled to be working with the PTSD Research Center and looks forward to her continued involvement with the nonprofit.
